According to NHK news, Japanese scientist Isamu Akasaki died of pneumonia in a hospital in Nagoya on April 1, at the age of 92.

Akasaki was born in Kagoshima Prefecture in 1929. Graduated from the Department of Science, Kyoto University in 1952. Later, he worked in Kobe Industry, Nagoya University, and Matsushita Electric Industrial Tokyo Research Institute.
In 1981, he became a professor at Nagoya University. In 1992, he became a professor at Mingcheng University. For the invention of the high-efficiency blue light-emitting diode (LED), he won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics together with Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura. (Source: NHK)
